Who are we?

Kamwenge initietive for development organisation was founded in 2005 by a few Kahunge residents in Kampala. These members had taken an initiative to address social and economic challenges among its members. It should be noted that it started as a small nonprofit association in the names of Kahunge development association limited by guarantee. It was later transformed into Kamwenge initiative for development 0rganisation under the leadership of Kyomukama Emmanuel an incumbent banker. After reflecting on the plight of marginalized groups mainly children, women and men who were poverty stricken by rural, urban absolute poverty. It latter took a holistic approach to address the social, economic and agricultural challenges of the district of Kamwenge. Therefore there was a need to address the identified community issues of abject poverty, food insecurity, child abuse, HIV/AIDS, and environmental degradation. Since its inception, the NGO has progressed to transform the society by “improving people’s livelihood through sustainable agricultural transformation” with a bias to reduce abject poverty, To increase agricultural production, agri-processing and value chain production, improving health especially maternal health and infant mortality, increased people’s income and improve their standards of living so that people can live a meaningful life. This is attainable under the theme “improve white gold in Kamwenge”

1. MISSION

 Kamwenge initiative for development organization (KIDO) envisions a society which has “a fully economically empowered community able to have a participatory integrated and self sustaining poverty allevia
tion programmes, like I
mproving people’s livelihood through sustainable agricultural transformation, improves health care for the children, to champion and advocate for the Human rights of the poor people to achieve sustainable development.

2. VISION

To have an economically empowered society transformation through agricultural modernization and to improve the rural abject poverty, with emphases to good micro finance.

4. OUR MANDATE:

 Kamwenge initiatives for development organization (KIDO) is a local non government organization registered with the government of the republic of Uganda (ministry of Internal Affairs under registration No S.5914/10130 therefore it is licensed and mandated to operate within Uganda. Kamwenge initiative for development organization (KIDO) further drives its mandate from UNCRC (1989) and we promote the implementation and operationalization of the United Nations convection for rights of the children and the United Nations millennium development goals (2000) mainly, 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7. Kamwenge initiative for development organization (KIDO) acknowledges the fact that poverty is still rampant in Uganda 23% of the Ugandans are under abject poverty) Uganda Bureau of Standards (UBOS) 2010 report Uganda.

5. OUR OBJECTIVES.

• To demonstrate and proliferate better agricultural practices among the community to enhance productivity of agricultural products and transform subsistence farming to modern farming practices
 • To work hand in hand with other development partners to promote health with emphasis to primary health care, maternal health and child mortality.
• To work hand in hand with other development partners to improve health water and sanitation in Kamwenge district.
 • To stimulate and promote small scale industrialization, developing community projects that promote micro-economic activities and macro-economic activities, develop large enterprises so as to transform the society.
 • To constitute a district watch dog to facilitate a forum for exchange of ideas among members which are geared towards economic and social development to mobilize members to save for investment with a bias in microfinance development of SACCOS and acquisition of capital assets and other income
 • Generating activities to improve society and alleviate absolute poverty.
• To enter into partnership or co-operation with other interest groups, or memorandum of understanding with development partners front ventures or otherwise any group institutions or organizations engaged or about to be engaged in activities similar to those of KIDO of which are supportive of its objectives.

6. MEMBERSHIP

 Membership is open to all people of Kamwenge and kampala districts regardless of their sex; religious status; or their residential status. One to become a member he or she must satisfy the following conditions:  Register as a member with the office of the secretary general.  No payment of registration fees, registration is solely free.  One may pay subscription fees to boost the NGO,s income.
